Tech dazes?
Hi All,

I'm thinking of re-joining the club after dropping out a few years ago. I just had too many irons in the fire before and have made an effort to free up some time. I cruised around this site a little and noticed that there is not a tech day mentioned(that I could find). Do you folks have such a function once in a while? I recently replaced my 78 RS with an 05 1150RT. My project this spring/summer is to get as comfortable with oilhead repairs/maintenance as I am with airheads. I know that I can work my way through the manual and 'get her done', but it would be nice to be around folks have done or are doing the same thing. I am a automotive master tech with (gasp!) 40+ years of experience. I have always done all of the non-warranty work on all of my vehicles and am looking forward to more of the same with this one. This bike has 36k on it and needs just about everything done to it before riding season starts. I believe that I have most everything I need except for maybe a couple of special tools which I will get. OK, I have a heated shop, most every general tool known to mankind, a compressor, a lift and will end up with all the special tools needed to work on this oilhead. Now some company would be nice!

Hey Mark,

We have tech days on occasion. Usually its organized by one of the members, but its not regularly scheduled. You should visit our next meeting to re-introduce yourself and talk to folks about getting a tech day together. I know people get excited about the tech days when they get organized.

I sure would be interested in a tech day, but I really have no expertise and would have to assume the role of a student.

We're built of all sorts of experience and enthusiasm. Everybody is welcome and we strive to enjoy our passion together. Speaking up at meetings and notes to the leadership can help inspire someone to host a work day.

If there is anyone out there who does their 0wn maintenance on an Oilhead, even the simple stuff, who wouldn't mind an obsever watching, drope me a PM. I am also looking for some observation time for wheel-tire changing. Thanks.
