I needed to replace a rear tire on my RT and I checked Max BMW's web site and they are offering some pretty good prices on tires. I took those prices and talked to Ian at Street Cycles and he came back with a pretty good price and first rate service. I saved about $50 and a 45 minute drive both ways as well as an hour wait in NH. I took my tire in Wednesday, I got it back Thursday and I put it right back on the bike. Check it out, you could save some money and be ready to go with new rubber in the spring! I don't work for Street Cycles, but they always treat me well. I'm always impressed with good prices and service. Don

I purchased a professional model GS 911 with blue tooth earlier this year and have it set up with both my computer and my cell phone. If your bike won't start or you need to run a computer diagnostics test on your bike because something isn't working right, contact me and I'd be happy to help you with a computer diagnostics test. My GS 911 unit will do an unlimited number of VINs, so I can use it on as many bikes as I want to. I've noticed an increasing number of posts on other forums where MOA/RA members are looking for locals with a GS 911 to help them out. I thought I'd let you know there is one in the club in Portland and I'm happy to help out if you need it. Send me a PM with your contact information or call me. Don

Good Deal on a Garmin Zumo 665

I was surfing the BMWMOA forum earlier this week and followed a post from a guy that bought a Harley Davidson Road Tech Zumo 665 from Surdyke.com, an authorized Harley Dealer online. Here is the deal: do a parts search for: 76000014

It's a Garmin Zumo 665 which ordinarily retails for $799, they are selling them for $639.96, they'll quote shipping at $51, but if you send them a nice e-mail, they'll drop the shipping to $17.54 for a total of $657.50. If you buy the unit here, you get a 2 year warranty as opposed to the usual one year warranty you'll get from Garmin. If you go online and do a search for Harley Davidson Road Tech Zumo you'll find Harley's page on this and an offer for free lifetime map upgrades if you buy this from an authorized Harley Dealer, which Surdyke is.....(a $90 value) and fill out the form and send it in...you have to have purchased the unit by 12/31/2011. Here are the only cons I can see: It has a black casing with orange letters on the bottom that says: Road Tech Zumo and it has a directory of all the North American Harley Dealers preloaded (I'm hoping this can be erased, but if not, it's not a deal breaker for me). I ordered one and I'll let you know how it works out. Here is Harley's you tube video of the unit:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DuQs4ArIyO0

If you go to the BMWMOA forum under gear you'll see the posting that I saw and can read it for yourself.

Let me say I don't work for Harley or Surdyke and have no financial interest in either of them. I'm posting this for the benefit of those who
might want to save some money on a top of the line motorcycle GPS. I figure a savings of roughly $141.00 off the retail price of $799.00 with a 2 year instead of a 1 year warranty and free lifetime map upgrades of North America and the use of Harley's trip planning web site that can be loaded into the GPS...... not a bad deal.

Just a heads up that the second of this year's sunrise rides at Mt. Washington is on Sunday, July 24. If the weather is good, what a great experience. The gates open at 4 a.m., leaving plenty of time to scoot up the mountain in time for sunup. Sue and I went a couple of years ago on the August date. When we left home it was 60-ish (at 2:30 a.m). At the top of the mountain it was 39 F. with a 30 mph wind. Cold as hell. So electrics aren't the worse idea in the world. But what a view! One tip: if you go, give the cars in front of you lots of space. They have a tendency of stopping here and there to look, and if you're on a curve (especially with two up) there's no place to put a foot down. That said, it's a memorable experience.

There's more information here.

I'm looking for your thoughts on changes we made to the DownEast this year. Also any ideas you might have to make next years rally even better.

For example, did you like having the extra chances to win the larger door prizes on the table? Did you feel that 5 tickets were too many? Would everyone just getting 1 ticket be better so someone could not win more than 1 door prize?

Or did you like having the Rally shirts available as pre-order so you could be sure that you got the size and style you wanted? Would you rather have more shirts available at the rally?

Let me know your thoughts, complaints and ideas. If you don't want to put them on the forum email me at rally@bmwrsm.org.

I came across this article in a riders list. French government is looking to impose additional laws on riders in the name of safety and French motorcyclists are feeling a bit over governed. Take a look at this article, the photos, and a video of a 4-5,000 bike protest in the Normandy area as part of the overall 75,000 rider protest.
